I don’t have a system for determining whether a goal is worth changing, or if I’m just copping out of something that’s hard, but I do have an instinct for it.

There are two problems with my list:

  1. It only has 95 goals on it and we’re several months into this.
  2. The Trolls are no longer on display in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and I didn’t see them because I made a decision that the cost was too high.

Would the cost of seeing the trolls have put us in the poorhouse? No. But I just didn’t think the cost was reasonable. Most botanical gardens that I’ve been to are nearly free. I get that in order to have big art installations like the trolls, you would probably have to make money on it. But . . . it wasn’t very accessible to me. Like I said, we *could* have spent the money. But the money we would have spent on that stretched a lot further applied to our trip to Oregon. Or, if you’re looking purely from a financial standpoint, the value of the cruise we took was more than that.

So, I could take that as a loss. I know it’s unlikely that I will accomplish 100% of the goals anyway.

But, it’s my list and I’m just deleting it and making that spot available for other goals that may come along. Yes, I know I have 6 other empty spots. But, what if 7 goals come along that are worth adding?

I’d like to add another specific goal, but I also struggle with goals over which I don’t have complete control. I’m excited to invite some specific friends to Thanksgiving at our house. They are not from the US and specifically wondered about US Thanksgiving traditions. I’m excited to host them. But they aren’t close friends, and I have no control over whether they attend. I’ve had a few disheartening experiences lately that have taught me not to take flakiness too personally, but when you pin your plans on someone else’s attendance, that’s hard. So, my plans for thanksgiving are to either host a family’s first Thanksgiving in the US OR to go hiking in Asheville. I guess that can be a goal.

I have several other entries to write, lots of progress is being made! Fun stories from a few goals, sweet time spent with loved ones, and another book mash-up to write — this one for books read completely out-of-order and that by pure coincidence were supremely compatible.

It will have to wait, though. Date night in Athens tonight, and maybe I’ll get that walk of fame goal marked off, too!
